Five on Friday: Five Random Things

I'm linking up Five Random Things From My Week with Five on Friday hosted by Amy of Love Made My Home.

1. My super-talented artist daughter, Hope, drew me as a My Little Pony. She incorporated my hair and eyes (brown), my three favorite colors (purple, red, and blue), and one of my favorite hobbies (crochet). And, of course, my name is the same as my favorite brand of yarn, Red Heart.

2. Twenty ounce Cokes have names on them lately. I saw this one and had to buy it. Not that I want to share my soda with a 14-month-old!

3. I received my first order of hand-dyed floss from Mo's Sale! Isn't it pretty?? From left to right, I have Dory, Kristoff, Nemo, Pride, and Tagada (already in use on a project, it would be on a bobbin right now but I'm currently out). I'm very happy with it and plan to order more.

4. I'm curious: how big is a bag of sugar where you live? In Florida, sugar is sold in five pound bags. In Ohio, where my dad lives, and here in Texas, sugar is sold in four pound bags. One of those things in life that make you say, "Hmmm."

5. Our oldest church member, Miss Goodwyn, passed away a couple of weeks ago. She was 94! I hadn't known her very long, but she was always happy to see us, and she loved kids. She also loved bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas, and had a four acre field of them on her property. At her memorial last week, everyone took home this bookmark; the little heart is full of bluebonnet seeds! I thought that was the neatest way to remember a sweet lady.

Thanks for reading and looking.
Blessings :-)

  1. So you've passed your artsy talent onto your daughter I see! Nice. I had noticed they started selling sugar in the 4-lb bags there lately. I figured it was just another way for them to charge the same but give you less!

  2. That's a great My Little Pony! I like the idea of planting seeds in memory of someone it's like a part of them lives on. Lovely post :) I live in Florida too but we get the little 2 lbers we don't cook much

  3. What great choices. Your daughter truly is talented, and the personalization makes her drawing even more special. The tribute including Miss Goodwyn's favorite flower is such a thoughtful gift and assures she'll never be forgotten. And oh my goodness, how I'd love to be stitching with those threads! You chose gorgeous colors!

  4. It was fun reading your Five on Friday. Here on the west coast, sugar used to be sold in five pound bags. But for the past few years they are now sold in four pound bags. I don't know why.....flour still comes in five or ten pound bags. May I ask what are you going to stitch with those beautiful hand dyed threads? My best to you. Pat

  7. All very interesting things. So sorry to hear about the death of your friend, it sounds as though there will be many flowers to remember her by though, so that is a great thing isn't it. I love your daughters picture, that is so lovely isn't it! No idea how many pounds bags of sugar are sold in here now, as it is all in kilo's! Probably one kilo which is about 2 pounds in weight! All very odd!! Thank you so much for joining in. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  8. Hi Kate, I love the things you shared today. The pony your daughter did "of/for" you is darling. I'm in OH and our sugar has been 4 lbs for about 2 years now I'd say. Seems like "they" are always trying to find new ways to make money. The bookmark is neat and a creative way to remember a dear lady. Have a nice weekend, Heather
