Yard Sale Fun

My friend, Kay, and I went yard saleing (is that a word?) today. We found out about 2 sales in Orlando that advertised yarn.
We found them! The first one had crochet thread; we got 45 spools (?) for $35; this is my half.
The next one had two bags of yarn, about 14 skeins plus a double ended crochet hook (does anyone know how to use one of those?). This is my half; we spent $18 for all of it.
After those two, we drove around for several more hours, stopping whenever we saw a sign. These are the rest of my yard sale treasures:
A shirt for Tim - 25 cents

Wii game - $5, a book for Hope - $1, a rose shaped candy dish - $1
two DVDs - $2 each, a DSI game for Hope - $10, a Bugs Bunny paper punch - $1

Bookshelf - $3, a Shark steam mop with 5 cleaning pads - $25

Box full of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock - $1

We had a great time! After getting home about 2:00, I cleaned the house a little, made dinner and am settling in for a nice relaxing evening. Hope is having fun playing her new games and Tim is making a floor for Sugar's kennel (he picked up a truckload of lumber at a yard sale for $50!).
I hope your Saturday has been as enjoyable as ours :-)

Photo a Day June 29

Today's topic is Soft.
What's softer and more snuggly than bulky and super bulky yarn?

The photo a day challenge in June is almost over! I've had so much fun with it, and I hope you've enjoyed the photos. Tomorrow's topic is Friend.
I've posted a new link and picture for Photo a Day in July, so if you want to join me next month with photo fun, click on the button on the left under challenges. You'll find the July prompts.

Giveaways

Carla at life multithreaded is having an awesome giveaway when she has reached 50 posts (should be sometime next week, she says). You can win 5 balls of Vinnis Nikkim yarn if you post a comment on the post link saying what your favorite yarn is. And check out her blog if you've never been there; she posts a lot of neat stuff.

Laydilyke at Crochetapy is having an amazing giveaway when she has 100 followers (only 4 more to go!). Details will be released after she has reached the 100 mark, but she has hinted it will be yarn :-) Happiness! Hop on over and check out her blog if you haven't had the chance; she posts very cool things.

Sadly, I have not heard from my giveaway winner. If I don't hear from her by Sunday, I will redraw for your choice of the cotton yarn or the Bernat Shakerspun wool. If you've already entered, you don't have to again, but if you haven't, post a comment on this post from Friday, June 8, telling me which yarn you'd prefer and what you would make with it.
Here are the yarn options again:
Two skeins of the Sugar n Cream cotton yarn (each skein is 2 oz) in your choice of colors shown.
OR
Two skeins of the Bernat Shakerspun wool (one navy blue, one cream; each skein is 2 oz).

Good luck!

Photo of the Day June 27 and June 28

Two pictures in one day again.
June 27's topic was Bathroom.
Yeah, right! I am not posting a picture of my bathroom. But posting a picture of the door was acceptable :-)

Today's topic is On the Shelf.
This is my Memory Shelf (ironically, directly across from the bathroom). It's messy and cluttered, but everything on here means something. We have souvenirs from trips, pictures, Hope's artwork, gifts from family and friends, things passed down from family members, you name it. I love all the stories it holds.

WIP Thursday

I don't like it as much as WIP Wednesday (better alliteration), but we had unexpected company show up last night and stay late so I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. C'est la vie!

I had fun making yo yos this week. Can you tell? I have 130 so far; 20 more and I'll start connecting them.
It's coming along slooowly. I'm determined to get it finished and in the mail to Project Linus before we leave next week.
I started a blanket for me (finally! my own crocheted blanket!); the pattern can be found over at Signed With an Owl.
I made another washcloth for the kitchen; pattern is over at moogly; don't think I'm crazy if you click on this link and pull up a pattern for a baby blanket. Under the second picture, she mentions turning the blanket pattern into a washcloth pattern.
And I finally got brave enough to try the roses from Apple Blossom Dreams. It took several watches of the video and several reads of the pattern, but I got it! The top one is my first attempt; I messed up the connection on the second round and I held it wrong so the third round came out upside down. But I took a deep breath, rewatched the video, reread the directions, and tried again. The second one came out much better. Thanks, Astri!

We are Texas-bound in 10 days! I turn into a crazy person at this time every year, so my posts and comments on your posts may become (read: will become) extremely erratic over the next week and a half. I'm also open to suggestions on what crochet projects to pack; this will be my first road trip crocheting.

Photo of the Day June 26

Today's topic is Where I Shop.
This one was tough because I didn't go shopping today and I wasn't thinking about it when I was shopping the other day! The majority of my shopping is done in the store; I check the ads to find out if there are any good sales before I go. But I do a fair amount of shopping from direct sales catalogs: Stampin Up, Mary Kay, Celebrating Home, Tupperware, etc. My friends and I are home party queens!

Two Tuesday

A big welcome to my new followers! I hope you're enjoying my little blog.
And welcome to Two Tuesday!

Two things I'm grateful for:

This amazing double rainbow we had this evening. I wish my camera had done a better job of capturing the colors; they were so vivid and perfect. You can just see the second rainbow arched over the first. Breathtaking.

My ten year old daughter showing an interest in cooking. With only minor help from me (anything involving knives and putting things in and out of the oven), she made our dinner tonight of Cheez-Its Chicken and sweet corn.

Getting Caught Up and Scrap Jar Week 3

I got a little behind on my granny square CAL when the AC was out, so I've been getting caught up today. I finished the week 5 squares.
I'll get the week 6 squares done in time for WIP Wednesday. It's supposed to rain all day again tomorrow; Tropical Storm Debby hasn't been too bad where we are; we got about 3-5 inches of rain today. Other parts of the state have been hit a lot harder. That's summer in Florida :-)

Scrap Jar Experiment Week 3

Today's topic is Cute.
This is Mr. Pib. He's cute, and he knows it. Yes, he's sitting on the bird cage; Stormy and Twitter (our two male cockatiels) don't mind as long as he doesn't bother them. And he didn't mind the blanket I wrapped around him; he stayed in it for about 20 minutes after I took this.

Photo of the Day June 24

Today's topic is What's On My Mind?
These were the two things on my mind on this rainy Sunday: finishing a dishcloth for my kitchen and making Christmas cards with friends (I know what you're thinking. Christmas? In June? We make 10 cards a month for 6 months. Then when it's time to mail them, we'll have 60 made).

Me-time Saturday

What a day! It was so nice to take a whole day for myself. I know that sounds a little selfish, but, remember, I homeschool and work from home. A whole day just hanging with friends and going to places I like is not a normal thing around here.
First up was Hobby Lobby. Angela and Sarah had never been, and I hadn't been in months, so we had a blast walking around looking at everything. We all left with several new goodies.
No good yarn sales today, but I had a 40% off coupon I used on a skein of I Love This Yarn in Autumn Stripe. I also picked up a new H hook and this neat canvas print.
Scrapbook stickers, adhesive squares, and adhesive gems and pearls were all 40% and 50% off so I grabbed a few of those, too. (Crazy, flippy computer!) All total, I spent about $27. Not too bad.

We had lunch at Chik-Fil A, then it was on to the Scrappy Boutique, a locally owned scrapbook store. I love to just browse there; they have the neatest paper crafting supplies you can't find at other stores, although they can be a bit pricey.
We had fun in the 40% off clearance corner. I picked up 17 sheets of really nice, thick, double sided scrapbook paper for $11.

We made it home by 2, then I had to leave at 3 to go to my friend, Sarah's, Stampin Up workshop in Lakeland. I picked up my friend Emily and we headed over.
We had a great time! There were 8 ladies total plus Sarah's husband. We watched the representative make two really neat projects and then we each made one of these nice Christmas cards. I ordered some markers, ink pads, a clear stamp, and an acrylic block (for the stamp). I spent a little too much; I'll have to deduct some of my shopping money from our Texas trip budget!

I was home by 8:30 and spent the rest of the evening crocheting and watching TV. Tim and Hope went to bed early, so it's just been me and the dog.
I hope your Saturday was just as enjoyable as mine :-)

Photo a Day June 22 and 23

Oops! I forgot about my photo yesterday. I had to do two assignments today.
The photo topic for June 22 was From a High Angle.
I (carefully) stood on a shelf and on my tiptoes at Hobby Lobby today and shot this photo of one of the yarn aisles. Lots of yummy, yummy yarn!

The photo topic for June 23 was Movement.
Thanks to Hope for this idea! I'd almost given up because it was so late and I couldn't think of a shot, but she just gave me one of those pre-teen looks and pointed at the ceiling fan. I think this came out very cool!

There's still time for you to join in on the Photo a Day Challenge in June. Click on the camera on the left for more details and the subject list.

Good luck!

Fun With Friends

Has anyone played Cranium? I have to put a plug in for this game; it is SO much fun!

My friends and I almost hurt ourselves laughing last night at our weekly Girls Night Out. I promised I wouldn't post any pictures, but I will tell you we had to do some interesting things: crab walk around the room carrying a plastic frog, draw things with eyes closed, make a loop with clay for plastic frogs to jump through, and spell long words backwards, just to name a few. It's a team game, so you have to have at least 4 people to play, but it's for all ages.

I'm off to get caught up on my cleaning, but I get to go to Hobby Lobby in the morning, so I have something to look forward to.

Photo of the Day June 21

Today's topic is Where You Slept.
I'm not sure how to make this interesting; it's just my bed. Although it was nice to sleep in an air conditioned house last night; I got to snuggle under my comforter where I like it.
Now you know where I take a lot of the pictures of my finished items.
